Our 2014 Starwood Cares President’s Award Winners were in for a treat when they flew to Bangkok to receive their awards.

As part of their prize, the winners get to bring along a partner with them to enjoy the trip. For some of the winners, flying out on a plane to another country was their first experience and a highly exciting one.

The winners were treated as VIPs, just like how they have treated their Starwood guests – beginning with a red carpet welcome at the airport, where a personal welcome crew attended to them before they were whisked off in luxurious Mercedes Benz limousines to the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit, A Luxury Collection Hotel for their highly-anticipated 3-day, 2-night stay.

Over the three days, the winners enjoyed a half-day guided tour, visiting the biggest landmark at the heart of Bangkok - the Royal Grand Palace. They took a leisurely walk through the dazzling Wat Phra Kaew with its revered Emerald Buddha, the Golden Chedi and the Pantheon of the Chakri Kings, having a  great time exploring the cultural splendors of Bangkok and enjoying the company of their partners and other winners.

The highlight of the trip was of course, the Divisional Awards Gala Dinner 2014, where the President’s Awards winners were honored for their achievements by the President, Starwood Asia Pacific, Mr. Stephen Ho himself.

The theme for the event was ‘The Red Carpet’, and indeed, no expense was spared as the red carpet was rolled out for our group of President’s Award winners. Dressed in their finest, the winners were beaming as they entered the grand ballroom, escorted by bodyguards who helped keep the over-enthusiastic photographers at bay, just like in Hollywood!

During the Gala Dinner, snippets of all our finalists and winners’ stories were played on the big screen, to recognize the unassuming and caring acts of our associates who reached out and touched the hearts of many individuals.

The President’s Awards presented for the night honored the following acts:

After the whole event, even as the winners flew back to their homes with joyful spirits, the celebratory mood did not end there. Shortly after, we got wind of celebrations within the properties as well.

For Mr. Summer Hu who was unable to receive his Outstanding Care for Guests award personally, Le Meridien Xiamen had the trophy and certificate specially couried to his home, so he could celebrate his win with his family and friends.

For the team awards, the General Managers themselves got involved in the celebrations, and organised property-wide parties to share the joy with all associates. At Sheraton Nha Trang Hotel, they held a special commemorative event where they replayed the awards film roll from the Gala dinner, recapturing the exciting winning moment for the property. They also revisited their Starwood Cares Journey, encouraging and inspiring the associates to continue caring for others.

For The Westin Pune Koregaon Park, they made careful preparations for the celebrations during their quarterly Townhall Celebrations, and even specially designed an engraved trophy and replicated the President’s Awards certificate for their associates. On the 30th September 2014, they finally kicked off the party with their F&B leadership team, with GM Mr. Sujeet Kumar personally handing the trophy & certificates to each and every member of the 180-strong F&B team who contributed to the prestigious win. At the associate event, GM Sujeet Kumar jubilantly recounted his proud moment when receiving the Outstanding Team Award on behalf of the F&B team and thanked all associates for their hard work.

With the successfully conclusion of the Gala dinner and in-property celebrations, the 2014 Starwood Cares President’s Awards has come to an end.  We would like to express  special thanks to the host hotel, Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit, A Luxury Collection Hotel, hotel GM Mr. Richard Chapman and his team for making this event such a memorable one for our winners. We are indebted to all associates from the Rooms and Concierge department, Khun Veera Jindareung (Chief Concierge), Khun Bussakorn Saruttayaporn (Reservations Manager) and Duangjai Rungreangaree (Director of Rooms) who took special care to made comfortable arrangement for the winners’ rooms and tour, and who worked tirelessly with the Divisional team to make this trip a memorable one for our winners.

The President’s Awards which honors the best-in-class care stories had a spectacular run in 2013. We saw many caring moments by associates being showcased and celebrated with a bang. We look forward to more caring moments stories next year!
