Check out what are some of the activities that have been happening in Starwood Asia Pacific to Care for our Associates, Guests, or Business.
The Westin Kuala Lumpur held the much awaited Starwood Cares Leadership University (SCLU) cluster graduation on 18 March 2013. Present at the ceremony were 48 graduates of the Turn-1 (supervisors) and Turn-2 (managers) modules from the three Starwood Kuala Lumpur hotels, namely Le Meridien Kuala Lumpur (LMKL), Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur Hotel (SIKHL) and The Westin Kuala Lumpur (TWKL).
In January, to ensure our guest contact associates are equipped and ready for any emergency in the water or on land, our hotel collaborated with the local authorities to run the Marine Safety Awareness Program (MSAP).
Over two days, selected associates from various departments took part in the training. Apart from first aid and CPR training, participants also had to complete a grueling lifeguard module in the open sea, rescue a “victim” and apply CPR on the “victim”.
The Westin Resort Nusa Dua Bali was recently recognized for providing a harmonious work environment for all associates and received the prestigious Best Industrial Relations in Hospitality Industry in Bali Award from the local government. Receiving the award from the Vice Regent of Badung was a great honor for our hotel. The resort is proud to be part of Bali's evolving tourism industry for the past 20 years.
In the recent past, Sheraton Pattaya launched “Trip Advisor Day” 2013 with our mascot, “Trippy” the magic owl. The purpose of the event is to create awareness of the unlimited impact tripadvisor.com website can have on travelers from all over the world when making decision on where to stay and dine.
In Le Meridien Sheshan, each new trainee upon joining the hotel will be attached to a mentor who will guide them in their work, and more importantly, help settle them in. To symbolically seal the important mentor-mentee relationship, the hotel arranged for an occasion where these protégés met their mentors formally.
There are many achievements worth celebrating at Sheraton Grande Tokyo Bay in 2012. But perhaps none is as exhilarating as being named top in the 2012 SPG Enrollment amongst all Starwood properties. We were also extremely pleased that we exceeded our internal SPG enrollment target by 1%.
The good result was not produced by the front associates alone, but through the hard work of all associates. For instance, our F&B team formed an SPG enrollment special task force that set daily targets per F&B venues, successfully achieving their goals.
On 5 February, the Westin Bund Center Shanghai held a celebration party for associates who have worked at Westin for 10 years or more. It was our simple but sincere way to salute these loyal associates from various functions who kept faith with Westin for more than a decade. To thank and entertain the loyal associates, every department presented a specially choreographed performance, which brought much joy to the occasion.
Sports is a universal language and at Westin, we believe that sports would help unite our associates as one. In January, we kicked off our very own Westin Olympics at the ‘Banquet Lawn’, which we had transformed into a colorful field of action. Associates from the various departments assembled at the lawn, with the leaders proudly displaying their team flags.
In February, we ran a 12-week “Sheraton Wine class” for associates who had an interest in wine. Conducted by our Italian Restaurant Manager, the class provided fun and interesting facts about wine, ranging from colour, taste, food and wine pairing and ways of serving wine. Wine tasting sessions were also included to give the participants a better understanding and appreciation of wine.
At Starwood we believe that everyone has a unique personal story to tell about Starwood and their growth journey. In 2012, Starwood Greater China kick-started the “Starwood Careers - Growing with Starwood” National Associates Micro-Film Festival where every Greater China Starwood associate can participate and share their career growth and achievements in a film of their own creation. The premise is simple – that the film should embody the essence of “Starwood Careers -Growing with Starwood”.
